Indianapolis, Indiana – April 10, 2025 – The Stamford Fire Department is proud to announce that Fire Chief Robert Morris Sr. was formally presented with a prestigious national award today at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The honor was bestowed in recognition of Chief Morris’s decades-long commitment to the fire service and his impact on firefighter training and leadership nationwide.

Chief Morris brings over five decades of fire service experience to the profession, including a distinguished 40-year career with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and more than 11 years with the Stamford Fire Department. Since joining Stamford in 2014 as Assistant Chief of Volunteers, he has played a key role in shaping the department’s approach to training, operations, and professional development. He was appointed Fire Chief of Stamford in February 2024.

A longtime instructor and contributor to FDIC, Chief Morris has influenced thousands of firefighters across the country through his work as an educator and mentor. His passion for improving the fire service and preparing the next generation of firefighters has earned him respect throughout the industry.

“Chief Morris embodies the very best of public service – dedication, humility, and a relentless commitment to excellence,” said Mayor Caroline Simmons. “This national recognition is a testament to his extraordinary leadership and the profound impact he has made on the fire service, not just in Stamford and New York City, but across the country.”
