Stamford, CT – At 7:47 pm Stamford firefighters responded to 28 Frederick Street for a report of a grill on fire extending to the rear of a house.

Engine 4 from the Shippan firehouse arrived within 3 minutes and found heavy smoke showing from the rear of the multifamily house. Engine 4’s crew extinguished the exterior fire and determined the fire had extended into the rear exterior wall. Additional hose lines were brought into the house to extinguish the remaining fire.

A search of the house confirmed all occupants had self-evacuated. A dog was removed from the second floor by firefighters and was unhurt. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire was placed under control at 8:34 pm.

Two families were relocated by the American Red Cross due to the extensive damage to the apartments.

The 1st alarm fire brought 35 firefighters, command, and support staff to the scene. Stamford EMS and Stamford PD provided additional scene support.

The cause of the fire is presently under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s office.
