The Stamford Fire Department responded to 43 Settlers Trail for a report of a fire underneath the porch. Upon arrival, E8 and Rescue 66 from the Turn of River firehouse found a heavy smoke condition at the front entrance of the single-family residence which was also emanating out of the eaves of the roof. E8 declared a working fire and stretched an attack line to the front door. E8 forced the front door to the home open and found smoke and flames extending from the wall adjacent to the entry way. E8 quickly opened the walls in the foyer and cut a hole in the roof over the fire to prevent the fire from continuing to the attic space. Much of the home was charged with a moderate smoke condition and one dog was found during the search for occupants in the first-floor bedroom. The fire was placed under control in 22 minutes. The dog was uninjured and returned to the owner who was not home during the time of the fire. No civilian or Firefighter injuries were reported. Four Engines, one aerial apparatus, one Heavy Rescue, units from the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department, and the North District on-duty Deputy Chief responded. Furthermore, support operations were delivered by the Stamford Fire Department Safety Officers, the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division, Stamford Fire Marshal’s Division, Springdale Fire Volunteer Accountability Officer, Stamford Emergency Medical Services, and the Stamford Police Department.

The residence was currently undergoing renovations and the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Division.
