Firefighters Quickly Contained the Fire and Prevented Significant Damage to the Home and Contents

STAMFORD, CT (October 3, 2024) – At 1:39 PM, Stamford firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 56 Gurley Road in the Shippan neighborhood. 

Engine 4 from the Shippan fire station arrived on scene in less than 4 minutes and found smoke coming from the rear of the single-family residential structure. 

Firefighters located and extinguished a fire that originated in the laundry room.  The sole occupant of the home evacuated on their own prior to the Fire Department's arrival and was not injured.  

The fire was placed under control within 15 minutes of the initial arrival. Firefighters remained on the scene for an additional half hour performing overhaul and salvage duties.

A total of 4 Engine Companies, 1 Truck Company, 1 Heavy Rescue Company, and the Shift Commander operated at the scene with a total of 32 fire department personnel.

There were no injuries to firefighters working at the scene.

Additional scene support was provided by the Stamford Police Department, Stamford Emergency Medical Services, Stamford Fire Department Training Division, and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division.

Fire and smoke damage is estimated at $50,000. Firefighters contained the fire to the area of origin and saved over $1,000,000 worth of home and contents.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
