It is with deep regret that the Stamford Fire Department announces the passing of retired Stamford Fire Chief Anthony J. Milone. He passed away at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family.
Anthony, well known as Tony, was born on March 9, 1938, in Stamford, CT to his parents Helen and Theodore Milone. He grew up in Stamford, CT where he lived for more than 60 years. Anthony attended J.M. Wright Technical School for carpentry. He became a master carpenter and was known for being able to build anything.
Anthony was a Stamford Firefighter and ultimately became Stamford Fire Chief in 1998. His love for firefighting and his brothers in the department were something that always made Anthony beam with pride. He was held in high regard for his leadership and dedication within the fire department. He retired from the Stamford Fire Department July 1, 2000 after 33 years of service.
Anthony was married to the love of his life, Marguerette Milone, for 64 years. They cherished each other and went on to build a fairytale life together. They raised three sons and achieved all their dreams together. Anthony loved a night out with friends, a round of golf, and working in his yard.
In his retirement years, Anthony lived his dream in Apache Junction, AZ for more than 20 years. In the home he designed, under the Superstition Mountains, he enjoyed all that western life had to offer. In 2021, Anthony returned home to Connecticut, where he spent his days enjoying the east coast breeze and being with his family.
Anthony is survived by his three sons, Anthony Jr (Dana), Theodore (Lynn), and Emil (Alma). His three sons were his pride and joy and he was the man his children could always count on. Anthony always burst with pride over his five grandchildren: Kelly, Anthony III (Samantha), Thomas (Morgan), Haylee, and Mia. Just last year, Anthony became a great-grandfather, Theodore T. Milone always brought a smile to Pop’s face.
Anthony is also survived by his sister Grace (Mike) Guarnieri, brother-in-law, Raymond (Elaine) Cuzzocreo, sister-in-law Claudia Milone, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife Marguerette Milone and brother Theodore Milone, as well as many close friends whom he considered family.
In 2023, Anthony became a resident of Bridges by EPOCH Memory Care facility in Trumbull, CT, where he received amazing care from all the staff. Anthony specifically had his own angel there, Kendra, who showed unconditional kindness and care to both Anthony and his family. The staff at Bridges were a true blessing to the family.
A Celebration of Life funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 11:00, at St. Jude Church in Monroe, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anthony’s name to Stamford Firefighters Local 786 Burn Foundation.
