It is with deep regret that the Stamford Fire Department announces the passing of retired Stamford Fire Marshal Barry Eugene Callahan, 75, of Stamford, Connecticut.  Barry passed away on August 9, 2024. Born in Stamford on February 26, 1949, he dedicated his life to service, both as a member of the United States Navy and through his esteemed career with the Stamford Fire Department and later the Stamford Fire Marshal’s office.

Barry was known for his quiet demeanor, analytical mind, and strength of character. He was a loving husband, a great father, and an exemplary role model who often put the needs of others before his own. His passion for live music brought joy to his life and those around him.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Callahan; sons, Jonathan Callahan and Matthew Callahan (Rachel); sister, Kelly Dunn (Matt); and sister, Shawn Boris (Gary). Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Elizabeth Callahan, and brothers, Keith and Kevin Callahan.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 15th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a Prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford, CT. Burial will be private.
