(Stamford, CT) – Stamford Fire Department firefighters responded to a structure fire at 20 Travis Ave. at 10:10 pm on Sunday November 24, 2013.  The initial response brought 4 Engine Companies, 1 Truck Company, 1 Rescue Company and 1 Deputy Chief, for a total of 26 firefighters.  Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke in the right side apartment on the 2nd floor.  Fire was found running in the ceiling between the first and second floors as well as in the wall in the rear of the building.  Power to the affected area was turned off and extensive overhaul was required to extinguish all hidden pockets of fire.  CL&P was requested to respond to the scene to remove power to the entire building.  The building’s occupants were able to relocate on their own.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshals Division.   The last fire unit on the scene cleared at 1:32 am.
